Windows PE delivers a lightweight edition of Windows designed for deploying and troubleshooting the operating system. Evidently, not all applications can be launched on this stripped-down version of the OS, since Windows PE cannot be used as a primary OS. Instead, you can mount WinPE images and use them to diagnose and troubleshoot Windows or carry out various deployment tasks.
Get SMART parameters of your computer’s disk in Windows PE
Specifically created to be used on Windows PE, Disk Check (PE) is a lightweight software tool ready to scan the hard drives of your computer and check out their status. You get to see the information about the hardware configuration and details related to the device’s health, all comprised in the list of S.M.A.R.T. parameters that Disk Check (PE) displays.
As expected, the application requires no installation. It can be used on both 32-bit and 64-bit computer architectures. Simply choose the one compatible with your system and double-click to launch it once you added the app on your Windows PE mounted image.
Find hardware information and device health details
You can choose the drive to scan from the drop-down list in the main window and hit the “Scan” button to start. Disk Check (PE) takes the time to check compatibility issues and begins to retrieve information about the hardware configuration.
Fields in the main window are filled one by one, revealing details about the hard disk model, family and location, the serial number, firmware and size, the working time and the date of the last update, as well as the SMART status of the device.
Additionally, Disk Check (PE) also reports on the device temperature, the estimated remaining life (for SSDs), the number of bad sectors and ATA errors, as well as an overall rating that should give you a hint about the status of the SSD or HDD.
