The DISM tool built into Windows can help users deal with Windows images, from managing the data within them, such as built-in apps, updates, drivers, and so on to preparing them for use. It does come as a Command Line interface (CLI) tool, though, which may understandably put some people off.
Turning CLI tools into GUI ones is nothing new, and this is an approach often known to make certain apps or functionalities more accessible. What you see is what you get with DISM Tool, which packages all DISM commands under a practical user interface.
For better management of your image deployments
Users essentially get access to the functionalities present on the Command Line tool, but this time, they’re arguably easier to access as they all get an actual user interface. The main features of the tool get their own tabs.
Besides the usual Mount/Unmount and Capture sections, there are also menus where users can find out about the packages, provisioned or otherwise, that come built into the image. The same works for drivers and features, which can be accessed by selecting the root directory of the mounted image. Doing so will display any relevant drivers or features.
Other tools for greater control over your Windows images
You can do some maintenance on your image via the Misc menu, which can scan it to detect any signs of corruption. Some restoration options are available if so, but you will need the source files to proceed with the repair. In addition, you may also split WIM files into smaller bits if size is of concern via Misc.
Some registry checking functions are also available, through which the end user can read a given image’s registry and open RegEdit to modify any parameters.
DISM, just as you know it
DISM Tool brings users all the features of the built-in DISM CLI tool without requiring any interaction with a Command Line, making it a more accessible and user-friendly way to manage Windows image deployment and servicing.
